How to Diet?

This question itself is a nightmare for many. There are many people who tried to diet and failed. Many of them fed up of eating things which they do not like. It is almost impossible to continue that for life, if healthy eating is not part of your life style and do not like it. There are many who has attitude of "Diet and me"?? Ohh!! I got one life and its for eating what I like. They never gave importance to the diet, though suffering from health problems.

Actually all these people are not wrong at some extent. Everybody have likes and dislikes for food. Everybody want to enjoy what they eat and want to do that for life time. Here is the question "can we do all that and still stay healthy, fit and in shape?"

As a nutritionist, I can assure you that yes, you can. Believe me, I myself is foodie and enjoy all kind of foods. And I weigh perfect for my age and in shape :-)

So, let me share few simple points on how to diet?

  • Most important and first step is to tell yourself that "You are not living to eat but eating to live".

  • You need to be ready to change your food habits. I am not saying that you have to stop eating what you enjoy. You must exercise even though you don't like it. Believe me, you may not leave it ones you start exercising.

  • Eat only when you are hungry. Take an example of children or pets. They eat only when they are really hungry. Be friend with conscious eater who encourages you.

  • Train your mind to eat less if you can't avoid it totally. Also do not eat while watching TV. You may over eat in front of TV.

  • Calculate the calories of your food. Average adult woman requires around 1800 calories and man requires 2200 calories daily. Reduce the daily calorie intake by 200 to 300 calories.

  • Remember good fat or bad fat, it has almost double calories than protein and carbs. Olive oil also has the same calorie as butter though it has good fats, so keep your total fat intake in control.

  • Reduce the usage of sugar. It is empty calorie (nothing but just the calories, no vitamins, no fiber, no minerals, just the calories).

  • Drink lots of water. Water do not have calories. It also helps in cleansing the body.

  • Chew your food properly and use foods high in fiber which gives filling effect.

  • Include different forms of physical activities in your daily routine. Yoga, swimming, brisk walking, outdoor sports etc. You can't loose weight if you do not burn your extra calories stored in your body. Diet and exercise are equally important.

  • Last and most important thing is do not get stressed about dieting, just contact Nutriyoga and we will take care of all your worries. :-)

Who is your idol?

When I think about idol, that is someone, who is perfect and whom I look up to. Idol means someone, who has all the qualities, which I too would like to have it in myself. Idol is the perfect example, whom I like to follow and eventually want to be like him or her. But, my idol can be totally different from your idol. Your idol may not be the one whom I look up to. Idol cannot be the one size fit for all. In fact idol is the one who have qualities, which I do not have, and still we like those qualities.

But, sometimes the concept can be superficial. What if we idolize the person, who actually suits us the best? Unknowingly, we try to justify ourselves and justify our situations through other's life. And idol becomes the one who is more or less like us. This may stop one to go beyond own limits. Though, I strongly believe everybody has the capacity of going beyond his or her limits.

For example, thin people appreciate size zero concept or look up to celebrity who are in that category. On other hand, heavy ones may idolize the person or celebrity who flaunts his or her body by saying this is real. Certainly, it is not a good idea to compare anybody without knowing their health condition and why they are in particular category. But, I would say this is human tendency to look for easy things and justifying it. Being Thin is not Fit and Being Fat doesn't make you Real, it just makes you Fat. Next time when you look for the idol, just think is he or she really having the qualities, which you are looking for or he or she just suits you best.

What and Why Nutriyoga?

When I thought of writing the first blog for Nutriyoga, I had many topics in my mind. Like weight management, fat, food, health, stress etc. Finally I decided to write about Nutriyoga before any specific topic. What is Nutriyoga and why Nutriyoga? Why did I choose this name?

You might have heard the buzz word "balanced life". Weather be it health, food, family, friends, relation, career etc. Everybody is struggling to maintain balance between millions of priorities. And the great goal of life, balancing. Seems like a theoretical term, which has no meaning in practical life.

It sounds so disappointing but actually it is not that hard. Initiative to make change and commitment towards achieving it makes it possible, and before you know, it is your life style.

Balance of nutritious food and few minutes of yoga can be the first step towards achieving the goal of balanced life. Balanced and nutritious food is important for having good health. It makes you look better, feel good, and improve immunity and many more. When you are healthy, your mind is fresh and works better and it can deal any situation in life in better way. And same is yoga. It gives your body more strength, flexibility, power and over all good health. Combination of balanced nutrition and yoga is very important to lead good healthy and balanced life.

Naturally, I choose the name Nutriyoga, the reflection of body, mind and soul :-)
